Magnificent Monday: Comets Hitting Spree Hammers the Hawks Hard

Greetings, Comet Nation!

Captain Comet was a bit busy with campus tours last week as Mayville State Mania wrapped up for the month of March, so I didn’t get any blog posts up in the blogosphere for you.

The Comets Baseball team had some victories at Concordia last week on Wednesday, as they took on the Cobbers in a game that went into extra innings.  The Comets prevailed on the winning side, 4-3 after 11 innings of battle.  Catch the stats at MSUComets.com .

Over the weekend, the Baseball team continued to stay on the winning side all weekend long in the 4 game series against Viterbo out in Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday.

To say the Comets had some hot bats over the weekend is an understatement.

The first game had the Comets hammering the V-Hawks, 20-2, then 15-0 in the second game on Friday.

Already outscoring the V-Hawks 35 to 2, the Comets kept the heat up and had another 12-0 shutout victory to take the three game run total to 47-2.  The final game of the series once again had the Comets with the hot bats, winning it out 11-1 and a 4 game run total of an impressive 58 times to cross the plate!

With 58 runs scored, you can imagine there are a lot of stats to share. Grab them all here at MSUComets.com!

Comets Softball also played Viterbo over the weekend. Friday’s games had the Comets taking the first battle of the 4 game series with an 8-2 victory. The V-Hawks battled back in the 2nd matchup of Friday and won by 3 in a 9-6 ending.

Saturday’s games had the V-Hawks taking both of them, 9-5 in the first game and narrowly getting by the Comets 5-4 in a nine-inning affair to round out the weekend.

Look to MSUComets.com soon for some recaps of those games.

So, where do our Comets stand in the standings?

The Lady Comets currently sit at 5-7 in the NSAA, residing in 7th place at the moment and are 11-15 overall.

Comet Baseball continues to stay strong near the top of the NSAA, currently sitting at 2nd behind powerhouse Bellevue, who are currently #8 in the country.  The Comets have received votes nationally and should be in the top 25 soon, with their 6-2 conference record and 23-6 overall record.

The next action for our squads should be against Mount Marty College for both the Softball and Baseball teams on the 4th in Yankton, SD, and hopefully a 4 game series at home versus Waldorf on the 7th and 8th. Field conditions will be a factor on these games, so stay tuned for updates on Twitter and Facebook from Comet Baseball and Softball if those games are played or delayed.

Both teams are looking to finish out April strong and head into the playoffs before you know it!

Hail To Our Comets!
