Comet Weekend Review

Greetings, Comet Nation!

This weekend we had 3 games over Friday and Saturday in Comet Basketball action. The Men played two games in the Husky Hoops Classic down at St Cloud State in St Cloud, MN, while the Women travelled eastward to Bemidji State at Bemidji, MN to take on BSU in another exhibition match-up.

Comet Men Compete in Husky Hoops Classic

The Men fought very hard on Friday night against a tough NCAA Division II team when they faced the host team, St Cloud State.  The Comets were a bit outmatched in size but still found a way to bring the score within reach at times.  Turnovers proved to be a costly measure and we fell 67 to 51 in the end.

Saturday’s game at SCSU was a better game overall than Friday’s, as the Comets took on the St Scholastica Saints out of Duluth, MN.  The Men took the lead right away and never looked back, even putting off a 2nd half surge by the Saints and retaining their lead towards the end for their 2nd win on the season.  Overall record now is 2-2, although 4 games have been in exhibition play against Division I & II teams (U-Mary, USD, Minot State and SCSU).

Lady Comets Battle It Out with BSU

For the Lady Comets, they had their game at the same time of the Men’s game on Saturday, which probably made some Comet fans from afar open up two different windows on their computers to catch both games taking place. After BSU climbed up to an early lead, the Comets came back in full force and captured their own lead for most of the game.  A 4th quarter surge by BSU proved to be too much for the Lady Comets in the end, as a battle in free throws decided the game in the final few seconds of play.  BSU came out ahead by one, 63-62. Catch the recap here at MSUComets.com.

You can catch both Comet teams in action at HOME tomorrow night, as they both take on the University of Minnesota-Morris, Lady Comets start their game at 5:30, Men at 7:30.

Toys For Tickets:

The Lady Comets are once again doing a “Toys for Tickets” campaign this year, so please bring an unwrapped toy for free admission to the games this Tuesday! The campaign will continue for the Dec 1st and Dec 2nd home games versus Presentation College and the University of Jamestown, respectively.

Hail To Our Comets!
