Winning Wednesday: Lady Comets Ranked #16, Both Comet Teams Sweep Cougars!

Greetings, Comet Nation!

With both Comet teams on the road yesterday, I had to keep watch over the place for a while. Everyone stays at bay when they see Cap’s Bat of Doom.

It truly is a Winning Wednesday today, as both Comet teams claimed victories last night over the UM-Morris Cougars down in Morris, MN, plus we found out that our Lady Comets are currently ranked #16 in the country!

Lady Comets Ranked #16:

Before Tuesday night’s game, the Lady Comets received some exciting news: they received 151 votes to earn a #16 ranking in the latest NAIA D2 WBB poll!  They entered the evening 6-1 and added another win when the night was over.

Comet Men Keep Cougars in the Cage with 82-72 Win

It’s tough to play the same team twice within about a week’s time, but the Comets had to do just that and face UM-Morris down in Morris, MN one more time after defeating them last Tuesday. Things were pretty close in the first half, and for the first few minutes of the 2nd half, too. The Comets then exploded with a big run, fueled by a number of Comets including the hot shooting from Cameron Epps, who captured 6 three’s on the night. UM-Morris fought back a little towards the end, but it was the Comets pulling away 82 to 72 to bring the victory back home on the bus with them.  The Comets are 4-2 overall and are currently on a 3 game winning streak as they head into conference play this weekend.

Lady Comets Escape UM-Morris With A Win

With a great first half, it was looking like another big win ahead for the Lady Comets, just like it was last week against the same squad from UM-Morris.  Going into the half with a 13 point lead, the Lady Comets had to keep plugging away at a pesky bunch of Cougars in the second half, who went on a big run of their own to narrow the gap in the final minute of play.  In the end, the Lady Comets came home with another win, 66 to 62. Joelle Ertl was a key sparkplug for the Comets victory, hitting 6 three’s and totaling 25 points on the night to share the leading scorer limelight with UM-Morris’s Meagan Theisen’s 25. The 7-1 Lady Comets are looking very strong with a 3 game winning streak as well, as they enter into NSAA action his weekend at home.
