Winning Wednesday: Both Teams Win, Plus Both Are Nationally Ranked!

Greetings, Comet Nation!

It’s another WINNING WEDNESDAY!

Welcome back to the Spring 2018 semester!  Our Basketball teams have been playing very well on the winning side the past few weeks, including these recent wins, all at home this past weekend and just last night:

WBB over Viterbo on Friday, 68-59

MBB over Viterbo on Friday, 89-69

WBB over Waldorf on Saturday, 74-54

MBB over Waldorf on Saturday, 90-60

WBB over Trinity Bible on Tuesday, 90-33

MBB over Trinity Bible on Tuesday, 78-35

You can catch all the big recaps of the games here in the links provided for each game!

Along with the recent wins, the two teams have been making some noise in the NAIA National Poll Rankings!

The Lady Comets entered the rankings at #16 in the first poll, and have held onto #23 in the last two polls. They are also leading in top ten in a host of statistical categories, such as steals, 3’s/game, and more. Leading scorer for the team is Andi Gayner, who is averaging 19 points/game this season, ranking her #15 individually in the NAIA D-II.

For the first time since the historic 2006-07 season, the Comet Men have re-entered the national ranks this week, this time debuting at #22! The 13-3 overall record is standing out well, and the 6-1 record in the NSAA so far is also making others take notice. They are also near the top of the pack in Total Rebounds/Game (43, #4) and their stingy defense is only allowing 68 points/game, ranking them at #6. Sharp-shooter Daniel Lindgren is leading the team with a 15 points/game average, along with rebounding force Eric Staebler who is averaging over 7 boards/game.
