Comet Volleyball Brings Home Two W’s from Georgia

Greetings, Comet Nation!

Comet Athletics got off to an official start on Friday when our Comet Volleyball team went to Brunswick, GA to play in the College of Coastal Georgia Mariner Invitational.

They played 3 games on Friday and 1 more game on Saturday.

Friday’s action was a very long day for the Comets, as the day went up & down for them.  After a 3-2 loss in the first match vs the host school of CCG, they nabbed their first win of the season against Warner University later in the afternoon in a 3-1 battle. Their final game was later in the night, going from 9 to 11pm eastern time, against Tennessee Wesleyan.  The Comets played tough against TWU with close battles in the first two sets, but TWU got the best of them in a 3-1 loss.

Saturday only had one game on the schedule for the Comets, which had the team pushing the limit to 5 sets. In that match against Faulkner University, the Comets broke free halfway through the first set and secured the win with a 25-14 score. Faulkner played it tight with the Comets with 11 ties and multiple lead changes. It looked like Faulkner was running away with the set when it hit 24-19 in their favor, but the Comets took a 4-0 run to come within one. The Eagles got the final point however to take the 2nd set.

The third set saw the Eagles take another one from the Comets after a small series of runs.  With their backs to the wall, the Comets came out strong in the 4th set and hit the Eagles with an 8-2 run, and an huge 13-4 run to take a 25-10 win and push it to the 5th set.

Although the Comets were down early by 3, a big 6-0 run helped spark the offense and was a key to their win in the 5th set and overall in the match.

For full match recaps, go to here for Friday’s action and here for Saturday’s action.

It will be a while before the VB team is in action again, next stop will be Mitchell, SD on 8/31 and 9/1 for two matches each day.

Don’t forget: Comet Football begins this coming Saturday!  They will be on the road against Montana State-Northern.

Fall 2018 Semester begins on Monday this week as well, with classes starting at 4pm that day.  First full day of classes will be Tuesday.
