In the first week of the season, Warner and teammate Jana Mehus were Players of the Week in their roles as Defensive Specialist and as Setter (Mehus). Jayden had another awesome weekend of defensive play down at the Corn Palace Tourney in Mitchell, SD.  She collected 135 digs on the weekend, an average of 9 per set.  Her efforts helped the Comets go 2-2 on their trip and kept them in some close sets throughout the contest.

Jayden is also ranked nationally #1 in Digs/Set and #2 in Total Digs!

It is the second POTW award for Warner in just 3 weeks time!

Congrats Jayden on A JOB WELL DONE!

Weekend Wrap-Up:

Over the Labor Day Weekend, the Comets were away from Comet Territory and on the road.  As mentioned, VB was in South Dakota and Football traveled to Fremont, Nebraska to take on the Warriors of Midland University.

In Volleyball Action at the Corn Palace Tourney, the Comets split their matches on both days.  Friday’s action Against the University of Montana-Western Bulldogs, the Comets battled all the way to set #5 and came away with the victory.  In the second match of the day, rather, late into the night at almost a 9pm start time, the Comets took on the host team of Dakota Wesleyan and had a series of tight battles with multiple ties and some big runs on both sides to contend with.  The Comets unfortunately lost to DWU in a 3-1 contention. In cased you missed it, catch the recap here!

Saturday’s action for VB had them facing Sterling College, then finishing off with Mount Marty College. The Comets were able to take Sterling College in a 3-0 sweep, but fell to Mount Marty in a 3-0 sweep after another match of close scores mixed in with big come-from-behind runs on each side. Catch the full scoop here!

The Comets are getting off to a decent start with a 4-4 record so far and are nationally ranked as a team in Digs/Game at #4 with 20.9 digs each game!

Comet Football:  The Comet FB squad started out in a good battle with Midland in the first half, but things got away in the second half on them.  The scores seem to be answered back and forth at first, with Midland having a 29 to 20 edge at halftime.  Midland took control of the second half and scored another four TD’s to secure the victory for them in a 56-20 ending.  Despite the loss, the Comets tallied 448 yards on the day and had 337 in the air.  Creighton Pfau went 24-44 for 325 of them and no interceptions on the day. Trent Momon had 183 of those yards and Jacob Hanson had 101 from the air as well. Catch the recap if you missed it, right here.

The Comets look to sharpen things up for FARMERS BOWL WEEK this week, as they have their first-ever home game on the new artificial turf on Jerome Berg Field.  It will be a historic game that should bring out the Comet faithful to pack the stands for that one.
